Motorcycle riders are among the most vulnerable road users in Uganda. With little protection between the rider and the road, skill and safe habits are what keep riders and their passengers alive.

At Uganda Driving Standard Agency (UDSA), our Motorcycle Rider Training takes you from the basics of controlling a motorcycle to riding confidently in real traffic. Our qualified instructors combine practical riding sessions with road safety theory, focusing on the situations riders face every day: busy city traffic, rough roads, rain and carrying passengers or goods.

What You Will Learn

Motorcycle Basics

• Getting to know the motorcycle: controls, gears and brakes
• Pre-ride checks: tyres, brakes, lights, chain and fuel
• Correct riding posture and balance
• Starting, moving off and stopping smoothly

Riding Skills

• Clutch and throttle control
• Gear changing and slow-speed control
• Turning, cornering and junctions
• Emergency braking and swerving
• Riding on murram, potholes and wet roads
• Hill starts and slopes

Road Safety & Rules

• Traffic rules, road signs and the Highway Code
• Lane positioning and safe overtaking
• Visibility: being seen by other road users
• Blind spots of cars, buses and trucks
• Defensive riding and hazard awareness
• Night riding and poor weather

Protective Gear & Responsibility

• Correct use of helmets, reflective jackets and protective clothing
• Safe carrying of passengers and loads
• Avoiding overloading
• Dangers of speeding, drink-riding and phone use

Emergency Response

• What to do in a breakdown
• Basic first response at an accident scene
